Cobourg Public Library has been part of the town’s fabric since the 1830s, beginning as a Mechanics’ Institute designed to offer working people books and lectures and later evolving into a full public library under the Public Libraries Act.
Over the years it has expanded from Town Hall to YMCA rooms to Chapel Street before moving in 1995 to its current two-storey Ontario Street location, where countless residents have benefited from programs, collections and events.
On Sunday September 28, from 2 to 4 p.m., the library will mark 3 decades at its Ontario Street home with an afternoon celebration.
Rachel Spence of the Cobourg Library tells us everyone is welcome.
The anniversary event will offer a nostalgic and informative experience for patrons, staff and volunteers past and present.
Guests can pick up a passport, then visit all eight locations to learn about library services and programs, and when you’ve completed the passport you’ll receive a Kawartha Dairy ice cream while supplies last and be entered to win a gift bag.
