The addition of a new accessibility ramp, lighting for exhibit areas and more was cause for celebration at the Cobourg Museum Foundation’s Sifton-Cook Exhibit Hall recently.
Northumberland-Peterborough South MPP David Piccini said he stopped by last Saturday at the museum to see firsthand the results of a $25,200 capital grant received through the Ontario Trillium Foundation.
“It is incredible to see the impact of the Ontario Trillium Foundation’s support right here in Cobourg,” said Piccini, while adding that the government is proud to support organizations like the foundation to help preserve local history and improve accessibility.
In a recent release from Piccini’s office, it states the old limestone building on Orr Street has seen several upgrades over its nearly 200 years – inclusive of the new ramp leading from the main exit into both exhibit areas and additional lighting for the permanent exhibit area over the last year.
At the same time, officials said with funding from the Canada Cultural Spaces Fund, the Cobourg Museum Foundation was able to rebuild walls at the exit so that a jack post could be removed.
“The event also featured a special talk that honoured the pioneer author Susanna Moodie.”
The foundation remains focused on maintaining and operating the barracks building as a museum/heritage centre and showcasing local history.
Last year, OTF invested nearly $105 million into more than 730 community projects and multi-sector partnerships such as the museum.
