Habitat for Humanity Peterborough & Kawartha Region and Places for People have unveiled plans for a 35-unit affordable condominium development on Peninsula Road in Haliburton.
The project, announced Thursday at the Haliburton Legion, will see 20 homes offered through Habitat PKR’s affordable homeownership program and 15 units targeted as affordable rentals through Places for People. A commercial space dedicated to supporting the non-profit’s work is also planned.
Organizers say the one- and two-bedroom homes will be modern, energy-efficient, and universally designed for families, seniors, and individuals. Construction is expected to begin in 2027 at the earliest, with fundraising and community engagement now underway.
Habitat PKR CEO Susan Zambonin said the partnership will provide “so much more than affordable housing,” while Places for People president Susan Tromanhauser called the collaboration a “lasting impact” for Haliburton County.
