The year-long commemoration of the 1825 arrival of Peter Robinson emigrants continues, with the scene now shifted across the Atlantic to Ireland.
A group of local descendants of Robinson emigrants is attending Ireland Canada Homecoming 2025, a highlight of which is the Peter Robinson Settler Emigration Conference this Saturday (September 20) in Mitchelstown at the Saint George’s Arts and Heritage Centre. Among the attendees will be Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin.
Among the keynote speakers at that event is Patrick Leahy. He says it’s an opportunity to frame the emigration story from the perspective what happened locally once the emigrants settled in.
Leahy says his research has led to new revelations about his ancestry and that of many others.
Leahy speaks to one revelation in particular that many, including himself, weren’t aware of.
