Greater Napanee Council has officially proclaimed three awareness weeks this September, highlighting important community and national initiatives.
Rail Safety Week will be observed from September 15 to 21, 2025. The proclamation, requested by CN and supported by Operation Lifesaver, aims to raise public awareness about the dangers around railway tracks. In 2024, Canada recorded 261 railway incidents resulting in 68 fatalities and 58 serious injuries. Council encourages residents to stay safe near tracks and support local rail safety initiatives.
National Legion Week will run from September 21 to 27, 2025. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 137 highlighted the importance of honouring veterans and their families while promoting community involvement. The week recognizes the Legion’s ongoing commitment to supporting Canadians who served in past and present conflicts.
National British Home Child Day will be observed on September 28, 2025. The proclamation honours the memory of more than 100,000 children brought from the UK to Canada between 1869 and 1948. Local tributes include lighting the Springside Park falls red.
