Organizers of the annual Peterborough Terry Fox Run are hoping the momentum of last year’s record fundraising result will lead to an even bigger number this year.
Set for September 14th at Nicholls Oval, the Peterborough run is part of a national effort that’s now in its 45th year. Registration for the local run, which far exceeded its 2024 goal by bringing in $43,628, can be made online at https://run.terryfox.ca/92914.
Sue Mason, with her daughter Shannon McKinley, has co-organized the Peterborough run for 30 years now. She says the reason for the run’s continued success is rooted in Canadians’ enduring admiration of its namesake, and the sincerity of his goal to run across Canada.
In today’s political climate, with Canadian values under attack, Mason says Fox provides a clear example to the world of “what Canadians are all about.”
Mason says when her daughter became organizer of the community run, she got involved as well, and it became a mother-daughter partnership.
The goal of this year’s Peterborough run is $28,500. For more information about the Terry Fox Foundation, and the research that raised money funds and the progress made to date, visit www.terryfox.org.
