The Township of Stone Mills council met on September 2 to review several key issues, from renewable energy projects to local infrastructure and facility naming.
Representatives from Innergex Renewable Energy spoke about a proposed long-term energy project and the federal mandate for renewable power. Council asked questions about property impacts, neighbouring concerns and past open houses, and directed staff to return with a report.
Council also heard a request to rename the Tamworth Medical Centre in honour of the Cowan McFadzean families. Members showed support but asked staff to first create a formal naming policy.
Other business included the adoption of a new conference attendance policy that limits councillors to one event a year to help manage costs. A staff mobile device policy was also introduced, and council approved the replacement of three failing culverts on Mountain Road, funded through the Roads Capital Reserve.
Councillor David Milligan closed the meeting by congratulating FireFit competitors, Centreville Fair organizers and the Tamworth Sabers hockey team.
