The historic Waterside Market in Deseronto was destroyed by a fire this evening.
Crews from Deseronto and Mohawk fire departments responded just after 6 p.m., as thick smoke could be seen for miles over Deseronto.
The building has been part of the town for decades. It once housed Rathbun Lumber drying kilns, the Dominion Match Company, a meat plant, a cheese factory, and Canada Optical eyewear. Most recently it was an indoor flea market and then a storage facility.
As of the time of this post, firefighters continue to work to contain the blaze. No cause for the fire has been reported.
