Belleville Police Service say they’ve charged a 19-year-old man of no fixed address following a domestic incident in the city’s west end.
On September 6 at about 1:15 p.m., officers responded to a report of a domestic dispute at a residence. Police say a woman reported that a male had come to the home, physically assaulted her and then fled. Attempts to locate him that day were unsuccessful.
Further investigation revealed the man was breaching a probation order requiring him to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.
On September 7 at 5:25 p.m., Belleville Police were called back to the same address. Officers located the suspect hiding under a mattress in the basement and took him into custody without incident.
He is charged with one count of assault and one count of failure to comply with a probation order. The accused was held for a bail hearing.
Police remind residents that domestic violence is a serious offence and urge anyone experiencing or witnessing abuse to contact police immediately or reach out to local support services for assistance.
