Quinte Conservation has issued a Level 3 Low Water Condition for the local watershed, including all of Prince Edward County and the Moira, Napanee, and Salmon River areas. This is the most severe level, up from a previous Level 1, due to low rainfall and reduced river and stream flows.
Residents using groundwater, wells, or inland lakes are being asked to reduce non-essential water use by 30 per cent. Those in the Ameliasburgh and Peat’s Point drinking water systems are also advised to take extra precautions until groundwater levels recover.
Recommended water-saving measures include avoiding car washing and grass watering, taking shorter showers, turning off water while lathering, fixing leaks, and installing more efficient plumbing fixtures.
A Level 3 declaration signals that water supply may fail to meet demand, and municipalities may impose restrictions under the provincial Water Resources Act.
