A 33-year-old Peterborough man is facing numerous drug and weapons-related charges following an arrest in the city’s downtown.
Police say officers on general patrol spotted the man using drugs in the Reid Street and Simcoe Street area around 1:50 pm on Wednesday. He was taken into custody and a search uncovered a variety of substances, including 50.8 grams of crystal methamphetamine, 17.1 grams of fentanyl, 9.1 grams of cocaine, three grams of crack cocaine, and 40 Dilaudid pills. Officers also seized a prohibited switchblade knife, Canadian currency, and a credit card reported stolen.
The man has been charged with multiple offences, including possession of cocaine and other drugs, possession for the purpose of trafficking methamphetamine and opioids, possession of a prohibited weapon, and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000. He is also charged with failing to comply with a weapons prohibition order that prevents him from possessing firearms, explosives, or other prohibited devices.
This arrest is part of the ongoing Safer Public Spaces initiative, aimed at reducing drug use and related offences in Peterborough’s public areas.
