Applications are now open for the 2025 Senior Care Micro Grants program through the Greater Peterborough Health Services Foundation (GPHSF).
Two $5,000 grants are available to support senior care projects and healthy aging initiatives in Peterborough City, County, Hiawatha First Nation, and Curve Lake First Nation. The deadline to apply is September 30 at 11:59 pm.
“2024 was the first year we offered the Senior Care Micro Grants program, and it was a great success,” said Vince Bierworth, Executive Director of GPHSF. “We had a number of really great projects submitted for funding and we truly wish we had more grants available to offer. We are excited to see who applies for the grants and what project they are working on in 2025.”
Last year’s recipients were Community Care Peterborough, which used its funding to support Meals on Wheels and grocery delivery programs, and the Peterborough Family Health Team, which purchased equipment to improve access to care for unattached seniors using its health clinics.
The grants can be used to support new or existing projects related to research, equipment, nutrition, physical activity, or mental health. Priority will be given to initiatives that have a lasting impact, support emerging needs, and improve quality of life for seniors.
The program is funded through the June Towle Trust, established as part of Towle’s estate in 2023 to support senior care initiatives.
Eligible applicants must be community or not-for-profit organizations with charitable registration numbers operating within the program’s geographic area. Projects must be completed within one year of approval unless an extension is granted.
