The province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has put out a call for witnesses following an alleged interaction at Belleville General Hospital between police and a 35-year-old man.
According to a recent SIU release citing preliminary information, the incident occurred last Friday, Aug. 29 during the afternoon hours when Belleville Police Service officers were in the emergency room at the hospital and “observed a male patient became agitated.”
An officer assisted hospital staff in restraining the man, and the following day, family reported to police that the man had allegedly suffered serious injuries, and this information was shared with the SIU, reads the release.
The SIU initially reported the man was arrested but now says this was not the case.
“Three investigators have been assigned to the case,” said the SIU, while calling on anyone with information relating to this investigation – including video or photos – to reach out to the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529 or online.
SIU said the man has been released from hospital.
