It was another busy weekend for Northumberland OPP with flight from a peace officer, impaired driving, assault and additional charges laid.
Here’s your latest OPP rundown:
AGGRAVATED ASSAULT ARREST:
On Monday, Sept. 1, 2025, police received a report of an assault in the Township of Alnwick/Haldimand. The caller, speaking on behalf of the victim, advised that a physical altercation had occurred the previous day between two men known to each other, reported OPP.
The victim was initially treated at a local hospital before being transferred to a Toronto-area facility due to the severity of his injuries, said police.
On Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2025, the Northumberland OPP crime unit arrested a 62-year-old man from Bowmanville in connection with the incident, who was charged with aggravated assault.
The accused will appear in Cobourg court in October.
FLIGHT FROM POLICE INCIDENT:
On Monday, Sept. 1, just after 8:30 a.m., officers reported clocking a vehicle at 146 km/h in an 80 zone in the County Road 41 Brighton area. When police attempted a traffic stop, the driver allegedly fled.
The vehicle was later located at a residence in the area and the driver taken into custody without incident, reported OPP.
As a result of the investigation, police said a 22-year-old Brighton resident was charged with flight from a peace officer, stunt driving – excessive speed and driving while under suspension.
In addition to an October court date, the accused had their licence further suspended for 30 days and the vehicle impounded for 14 days.
IMPAIRED DRIVING CHARGE LAID IN CRAMAHE:
On Sunday, Aug. 31, 2025, at about 3:20 a.m., police said they received multiple complaints about a vehicle partially parked between the live lane and shoulder on Hwy. 401 eastbound.
After arriving on scene, officers reportedly initiated an impaired driving investigation, resulting in an arrest and a trip to a nearby detachment for further testing.
As a result of the investigation, police said a 29-year-old Pickering resident was charged with operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs, operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) and operating a motor vehicle without insurance.
The accused will appear in court in October and received a 90-day licence suspension and the vehicle was impounded for a week.
SPEED ENFORCEMENT LEADS TO IMPAIRED CHARGES:
Last Friday, Aug. 29, at about 8:45 p.m., officers were conducting speed enforcement in the County Road 30 Brighton area and stopped a pick-up truck, said OPP.
After speaking with the driver, police allege they observed signs of impairment, prompting further investigation.
A 30-year-old from the Municipality of Trent Hills was charged with operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs, operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) and speeding.
The accused also received an October court date and a 90-day licence suspension. The vehicle was impounded for seven days.
TRAFFIC COMPLAINT ON HWY. 401 LEADS TO CHARGES:
Last Friday, at about 3:50 p.m., police said they responded to a traffic complaint involving a pick-up truck unable to maintain its lane on Hwy. 401 eastbound in the Township of Hamilton.
Additional reports led officers to locate the vehicle at a commercial property on Big Apple Drive, and then an impaired driving investigation, reported OPP.
As a result of the investigation, police said a 26-year-old Ajax resident was charged with operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs, operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus,) care or control of a motor vehicle with open liquor, and novice driver – B.A.C. (blood alcohol concentration) above zero.
The accused will appear in Cobourg court in October and also received a 90-day licence suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
Northumberland OPP continues to ask citizens to report suspected impaired driving by calling 911.
None of the charges in the above unrelated incidents have been proven in court.
