Local golfer Anthony Asta has been making a name for himself on the American collegiate circuit.
After finishing the round in a tie, the Baldwin Wallace freshman birdied the playoff hole to win his first invitational with a one-under-par 71 at the Joe Campoli Memorial Invitational in Harrod, Ohio.
Asta is an Indian River native and attended St. Peter’s Secondary School.
The Trent Excalibur men’s soccer team kicked off their season over the weekend, shutting out Nipissing 1-0 on Saturday before dropping a 5-2 decision to Toronto Metropolitan the following day. They’re back in action Saturday when they host Ontario Tech.
On the women’s side, the Excalibur lost both games to open the season. They were shut out 3-0 and then fell 4-2 to Toronto Metropolitan. They return to the pitch Thursday for a road game against Ontario Tech, followed by a home rematch Saturday afternoon.
The Petes opened their preseason over the weekend with two games against the Erie Otters. The teams split the series, with Peterborough winning 5-2 in the first game and Erie edging the Petes 3-2 in a shootout in the second. The Petes will face Kingston on Sunday in a 2pm matinee from the Asphodel-Norwood Community Centre.
