It was a busy week for Northumberland OPP with assault and impaired driving charges laid, in addition to a failure to comply with a prohibition order regarding children charge.
Here’s your latest OPP rundown:
On Aug. 25, 2025, police said they received a report regarding an alleged assault at a commercial premises in the Township of Alnwick/Haldimand. The victim reported being assaulted by a known individual and sustained minor injuries, said police.
As a result of the investigation, police said a 30-year-old Roseneath woman was charged with assault. The accused won’t be named to protect the identity of the victim, said police.
The accused is due in Cobourg court in October.
On Aug. 26, police said the Northumberland OPP crime unit initiated an investigation following a report of an individual breaching bail conditions by allegedly being in the presence of young persons.
The investigation culminated in an arrest on Aug. 28, and a 50-year-old Brighton man charged with failure to comply with prohibition regarding children.
The accused was initially held for a bail hearing in Cobourg.
Police said the name of the accused is being withheld to protect the identity of the young persons involved.
On Aug. 28, shortly after 9 a.m., police responded to an unwanted persons report in the Grand Road Trent Hills area.
While on scene, OPP said officers received a complaint about stolen outdoor furniture from a nearby residence. The suspect was identified as the individual involved in both incidents, reported OPP.
As a result of the investigation, police said a 28-year-old with no fixed address was charged with possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.
The accused will appear in Cobourg court in October.
On Aug. 28, at about 9:25 p.m., officers on patrol reported stopping a passenger vehicle for a traffic-related offence on Toronto Street in Cramahe.
After speaking with the driver, police said they initiated an impaired driving investigation, resulting in an arrest and a trip to the police station for further testing for the accused.
As a result of the investigation, police said a 60-year-old Township of Cramahe resident was charged with operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs, and operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus.)
The accused also had their licence suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle impounded for seven days.
They are due in court in September.
Police continue to call on motorists to not drive impaired and ask citizens report suspected impaired driving by calling 911.
None of the charges in the above unrelated incidents have been proven in court.
