Grain Farmers of Ontario District 12, representing growers in Durham, Northumberland, Kawartha, Peterborough, and Hastings, is backing the purchase of a new portable X-ray machine for Campbellford Memorial Hospital (CMH).
The support comes through the Grain Farmers of Ontario Community Investment Program, part of the organization’s Legacy Fund, which helps address the unique needs of rural communities across the province.
“Grain Farmers of Ontario, through our Legacy Fund, proudly partner with our community. Healthy communities are as important to us as the crops we grow,” said Jeff Harrison, Chair of Grain Farmers of Ontario, during an announcement at his family’s farm.
District 12 Chair Kristen Carberry added that Campbellford Memorial Hospital is a vital part of the local area.
The new portable X-ray is expected to arrive this fall and will provide real-time, high-resolution imaging directly at a patient’s bedside, reducing the need to move those who are bedridden or in fragile condition. The technology allows for faster treatment decisions, improved patient comfort, and more efficient workflow for hospital staff.
Currently, CMH forwards images to Peterborough for review as there is no radiologist on site. The new portable machine will also serve as a backup when the hospital’s stationary X-ray is undergoing maintenance, ensuring continuity of service.
As a 38-bed rural hospital, CMH provides care to more than 40,000 patients annually across seven municipalities in Peterborough, Northumberland, and Hastings Counties.
