Prince Edward County Fire & Rescue (PECFR) will shift from a full burn ban to a partial burn ban starting Friday, August 29. The partial ban will stay in place until fire risk levels are deemed safe.
Under the partial ban, only contained fires with screened tops or small campfires are allowed. Propane appliances, including barbecues and fire tables, are exempt from the Open-Air Burning By-law. All open-air burning still requires a valid burn permit.
PECFR reminds residents to follow all restrictions and by-law rules. The fire chief monitors weather and ground conditions to determine burn risks and updates the ban when conditions improve.
Residents can check burn status by calling 1-833-376-1011, visiting the County website, or pec.burnpermits.com. Illegal burning of garbage is prohibited and may result in fines or cost recovery for services. Complaints can be reported to 613-476-2345 or 911 in emergencies.
