Labour Day is a federal statutory holiday, observed on the first Monday of September. This year, Labour Day falls on Monday, September 1, 2025.
Since it is a holiday, most government offices, municipal services, and liquor stores will be closed, though some Beer Stores remain open.
Cobourg
Municipal offices and buildings, including Victoria Hall, the Cobourg Community Centre, the Cobourg Public Library, Public Works Building 7, and the Venture13 Innovation and Entrepreneurship Centre will be closed. Cobourg Transit will not run on Labour Day.
Port Hope
Municipal administrative buildings, the Hope Transfer Station, Transit Services, the Town Park Recreation Centre, public library branches and the Jack Burger Sports Complex will be closed. All services resume normal hours on Tuesday, September 2.
Brighton
Municipal offices are closed on Monday, September 1. Regular business hours resume on Tuesday, September 2, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For urgent matters, residents can use the municipality’s Contact Us page.

Other services
Canada Post will be closed with no deliveries. GO Transit will follow its Sunday schedule. Garbage collection will shift one day later for the week, and waste transfer stations will be closed. Grocery stores, Cobourg Home Depot, Walmart, and Northumberland Mall remain open. Many pharmacies are open—call ahead to confirm.
