As students head back to school, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and local safety officials are reminding drivers to stay alert for school buses and children on the road.
myFM spoke with the OPP’s Bill Dickson, who says everybody that’s behind the wheel of a car, truck, or anything else, needs to keep an eye out for those great big yellow school buses.
Drivers are urged to avoid distractions, keep their eyes on the road, and slow down in school zones, typically to 40 km/h.
Children biking to school should wear helmets, stay on the correct side of the street, and cross intersections on foot whenever possible.
Officers will be out, making sure students have a safe return to school.
Parents are encouraged to review safety routines with their children to ensure everyone gets to and from school safely.
