Cornerstone Family Violence Prevention Centre is bringing its signature fundraising event, Walk A Mile, back to downtown Cobourg on Saturday, October 4, during the Harvest Festival. Now celebrating its 18th year, the walk raises awareness and critical funds to support women, children, and youth impacted by gender-based violence.
Since its launch, Walk A Mile has raised more than $608,500 for shelter, counselling, housing, and prevention programs offered by Cornerstone. Last year alone, more than 3,000 individuals across Northumberland County accessed support through the centre.
Registration for this year’s walk begins at 9:30 a.m. outside the Cobourg Police Station. The Cobourg Lions Club will provide breakfast, with coffee from Pulse Coffee House and sweet treats from FrostBites. The Cobourg Legion Pipes & Drums will once again lead walkers down King Street.
Registration is $20 for adults and $10 for youth under 18. Participants are encouraged to raise additional pledges, either individually or as part of a team. For those unable to attend in person, Cornerstone offers online fundraising options through its JustGiving platform, allowing the community to contribute virtually.
Cornerstone Executive Director Nancy Johnston says the event is an uplifting day that brings the community together to raise awareness and show support. Sponsors include Ontario Line Clearing and Wharram Tree Service as lead Stiletto Sponsors, with Canadian Tire Cobourg and Post Consumer Brands as Challenge Sponsors.
