The City of Peterborough is taking steps to restore Wedgewood Park’s urban forest by planting 515 new native trees as part of the Trees 4 Peterborough initiative.
The work comes in response to significant damage caused by the Emerald Ash Borer, with about 250 dead or dying ash trees removed last week. The removal process also included clearing dense understory vegetation dominated by invasive buckthorn.
The community is invited to join a tree planting event on Saturday, September 20, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 1535 Fairmount Blvd. Volunteers can register at peterborough.ca/trees, where more information on the City’s Urban Forest Strategic Plan and Emerald Ash Borer program can also be found.
