Crews from multiple local fire departments battled multiple vegetation fires along the rail corridor near Woodcock Street on Friday, forcing a temporary shutdown of train traffic.
myFM spoke with Greater Napanee Fire Chief Shawn Armstrong, said the first call came in around 11:30 a.m. for a fire in the area of Oliver Side Road.
Rail traffic was halted during the incident but is expected to return to normal later in today.
The cause of the fires remains under investigation.
Neighbouring departments, including Tyendinaga, Mohawk and Stone Mills, provided mutual aid support.
Officials reminded the public that a total burn ban remains in effect due to dry conditions, stressing how quickly fires can spread and urging residents to stay vigilant.
