Here is your local sports report for Friday, August 22, brought to you by The Greek Freak. Eat Greek, Be a Freak.
The Peterborough Lakers are facing elimination after a 9-4 loss to the Six Nations Chiefs in Game 3 of the MSL final. The Lakers now trail the best-of-seven series three games to none, with a must-win Game 4 set for tomorrow night at 7 at the Memorial Centre.
The last time a team clawed back from a 3-0 deficit in the final was in 2016, when Six Nations stormed back to beat Peterborough in seven. If the Lakers extend the series tomorrow, Game 5 will be played Monday in Six Nations.
Turning to hockey, the Petes have signed first overall draft pick Kaden McGregor to an OHL Standard Player Agreement, with training camp opening Tuesday.
And Peterborough native Paxton Leroux has inked a deal with the ECHL’s Fort Wayne Komets, an Edmonton Oilers affiliate. The rugged forward, who piled up 170 penalty minutes in 34 games with the Peterborough Stars before capturing an OHL title with London in 2013, spent last season with the Tulsa Oilers.
