The Greater Napanee Fire Department has issued a total burn ban across the town due to prolonged dry conditions. The ban, which took effect August 11, applies to all outdoor fires including campfires, brush burning, and any other open flames.
Fire Chief Shawn Armstrong says the move comes as fire risks remain high across Canada and local conditions create added vulnerability. He is urging residents to respect the ban to prevent wildfires and reduce pressure on emergency services.
myFM spoke with the Chief, who said the fire department has also seen a recent rise in calls from residents reporting people ignoring the rules.
To ensure compliance, both firefighters and by-law officers will be monitoring activity closely. Those caught breaking the ban may face fines of up to $500 per offence.
The restriction will remain in effect until further notice.
