The Peterborough Police Service has introduced a new online tool to provide residents with more information on community safety and police activity. The Community Safety Map, available at peterboroughpolice.com, aims to help citizens understand local crime trends and engage in prevention strategies.
Chief Stuart Betts says the map is part of the service’s strategic plan to improve public safety through proactive initiatives. “The Community Safety Map is about information sharing and providing data relevant to understanding the picture of safety in our communities. We hope residents and visitors will find the information useful,” he stated.
The map displays calls for service over the past 365 days, including assault, break and enter, drug offences, fraud, impaired driving, mischief, robbery, shoplifting, stolen vehicles, theft, and weapons. Incidents are shown at intersections rather than exact addresses, and the police caution against drawing conclusions about the safety of any specific area, noting that the data represents a snapshot in time and may change.
Users can also report information about incidents through links to the online reporting portal and Crime Stoppers. Additional resources on the website explain how to use the map, privacy considerations, and details about the types of crimes included.
