The Peterborough Century 21 Lakers face an even steeper climb after dropping a second straight game to the Six Nations Chiefs in the MSL Finals. The Lakers fell 11-7 in Game 2 on Tuesday night at the Memorial Centre.
Game 3 moves to the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena in Six Nations on Thursday, with Game 4 returning to the Memorial Centre Saturday at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at the Grant Thornton box office.
Mike Robinson led the Lakers with two goals and four assists, scoring twice in the first period as the Lakers trailed 3-2 after 20 minutes. Goaltender Drew Hutchison stopped a penalty shot from Lyle Thompson early in the game after the Lakers were called for too many men on a breakaway.
In the second period, Dhane Smith and Braedon Saris traded goals before the Chiefs opened a four-goal run. Brad McCulley scored shorthanded, but Shayne Jackson added a goal with 3.7 seconds left in the period to put the Chiefs ahead 9-4.
Kason Tarbell scored his first playoff goal to start the third period, followed by a Saris marker. Brendan Bomberry put the Chiefs up 11-5, and Holden Cattoni and Thomas Hoggarth, breaking a three-game scoring drought, helped fuel a late push, but the Lakers could not catch up.
Dhane Smith led the Chiefs with two goals and three assists, Ryan Smith added two goals and one assist, and Ian MacKay had two goals. Josh Byrne contributed five assists. Doug Jamieson made 45 saves.
