The Ontario government has announced that the Ontario Public Service and its provincial agencies, boards, and commissions will return to full-time in-office work starting January 5, 2026.
A transition period will begin October 20, 2025, for employees currently attending the workplace at least three days per week, increasing their attendance to four days. Over half of OPS employees are already required to work on-site full time.
Minister Caroline Mulroney, President of the Treasury Board, says the phased return aligns with evolving in-workplace standards for public and private sector organizations across the province. She says the five-day in-office standard supports public service excellence while reflecting the needs of the people and businesses served by the OPS.
The government frames the move as part of its ongoing effort to build a competitive, resilient, and self-reliant Ontario. All staff across provincial agencies, boards, and commissions will be included in the full-time return-to-office plan.
The phased approach is intended to ease the transition for employees while preparing the OPS for a consistent in-office schedule starting in January 2026.
