Northumberland OPP is calling on the public for help with an investigation into the theft of an ambulance in Colborne.
On Sunday, Aug. 17, 2025, shortly after 11:30 p.m., police said they responded to a stolen vehicle report from the William Street area.
“Emergency medical services (EMS) were attending a residence and upon returning to the ambulance, discovered that it had been taken,” said OPP, in an update on their investigation issued on Tuesday, Aug. 19. “The vehicle was recovered a short time later at another location in town and was found unoccupied.”
OPP’s canine unit was called in to help with the on-site investigation, but police said no individuals have been found in connection with the incident.
Officers are continuing to follow lines of inquiry, and the investigation remains ongoing, said OPP, on Tuesday, while calling on anyone with information to reach out to police at 1-888-310-1122. Crime Stoppers also remains an anonymous option where tips can be made online or by calling 1-8000-222-8477.
“Emergency vehicles are critical public assets, and their misuse directly affects the ability of paramedics to respond to life-threatening situations,” said OPP.
“Incidents like this not only disrupt emergency services but also jeopardize patient care and public safety across the wider community,” added police, while stressing that interfering with emergency operations can have serious consequences for everyone.
