As of Monday, August 18, 2025, the Ministry of Natural Resources reports progress on wildfires in Kawartha Lakes. The Burnt River fire, HAL019, and the Kirkfield fire, OFR001, are now classified as under control, meaning sufficient suppression has been achieved to prevent further spread. Prospect Road has reopened, though resources remain fully engaged, and open-air burning will be treated with zero tolerance.
Wildfire HAL018 in the Municipality of Marmora and Lake has been extinguished. Officials thank crews from Marmora and Lake, Wollaston, and Limerick for their efforts. A complete fire ban remains in place across the municipality. No evacuations are necessary, but residents and visitors are urged to avoid fire areas for safety.
With four significant fires over the past week and extremely dry conditions straining firefighting resources, authorities remind the public to report smoke immediately to local fire departments, or 911. Drone operation near active fires is illegal and poses risks to aerial and ground crews.
Storm debris collection from the April ice storm continues, with urban areas completed and most rural areas collected. Missed pickups can be reported online. Residents are also encouraged to prepare a 72-hour emergency kit and household emergency plan.
