There are an estimated 500,000 people who have been impacted by the strike involving Air Canada’s Flight Attendants that began on Saturday.
While many have had to delay their travel plans as summer winds down, many others are trying to find their way home.
One of those stranded is Alan Duthie, the General Manager of our sister stations 98.9 myFM and Oldies 99.7, who is stuck in London, England.
He said he flew to the UK for his niece’s wedding, but his return flight was cancelled. So far, his attempts to rebook have led nowhere.
After several failed attempts over the phone, Duthie said he tried using the airline’s app as an alternative. Unfortunately, that also gave him the same results.
Dana Empey, the Vice President of BST Vacations in Peterborough says communication from the airline has been lacking
She says that Air Canada also has a legal obligation to help its customers, which it hasn’t been doing a good job of either, so the best thing customers can do is try to find their own way home
Empey adds that for reasons like this, it’s always important to have a travel agent
Air Canada is hoping that flights will resume on Tuesday, but it’s not yet known on how the striking workers and their union will respond.
