Ontario Provincial Police have laid impaired boating charges against two boaters in separate incidents on county waterways this summer.
On July 26, officers with the Prince Edward County detachment and Tyendinaga Police Service responded to a boat washed up on the Bay of Quinte shoreline. Police say the operator was found asleep at the helm. Robert Mittelstaedt, 70, of Aurora, was arrested and charged with impaired operation and impaired operation with a blood alcohol level over 80. He is scheduled to appear in Picton court on August 20.
On August 10, OPP and Quinte West officers, working with a Ministry of Natural Resources conservation officer, stopped a vessel on West Lake. Police say open alcohol was visible and the operator failed a roadside test. Russell Reid, 63, of Wellington, faces impaired and liquor-related charges. His court date is September 3 in Picton.
