A 49-year-old Peterborough man wanted on an Ontario-wide warrant for another jurisdiction is facing additional charges following an incident Saturday evening.
Police say officers were called to a residence in the Southlawn Drive and Otonabee Drive area around 6:50pm, where they found a 42-year-old woman with a knife injury being assisted by bystanders. She was taken to Peterborough Regional Health Centre for treatment.
The Emergency Response Team was called to the home, and just before 9pm the suspect was taken into custody and also brought to hospital for treatment of injuries sustained during the initial incident.
The man is charged with aggravated assault, assault causing bodily harm by choking, uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm (spousal), and failure to comply with a release order. He was also arrested on the outstanding warrant.
Police say he was bound by a release order not to possess a weapon. He was held in custody and appeared in weekend and statutory holiday court on August 17.
The name of the accused is not being released to protect the identity of the victim.
