The Peterborough Lakers lost the opening game of the best-of-seven MSL Final in Six Nations. The Lakers got out to a quick lead but couldn’t hold on as the Chiefs sailed to an 11-6 victory.
The series shifts to Peterborough tomorrow for Game 2, which is set to begin at 8 pm at the PMC.
The Women’s Major Series Lacrosse Provincial Championship was held in the city over the weekend, with the Lakers earning a silver medal after a tough loss to the Mimico Mountaineers in the championship game.
The gold medal-winning Mountaineers were led by Peterborough native Erica Evans, who scored the tying goal and the game-winner within a 39-second span in the dying minutes. Evans also scored the winner in the semifinals against the two-time defending champion Whitby Rush.
And on the diamond, the Peterborough U13 A Tigers wrapped up their season with a strong showing at the Eastern Ontario Baseball Association provincials, finishing in second place behind the undefeated Quinte Royals.
