After a citizen tip, Northumberland OPP say they’ve laid dangerous and impaired driving charges.
Northumberland OPP said on Friday, Aug. 15, at about 7:20 a.m., police received a complaint about a vehicle unable to maintain its lane while travelling eastbound on Hwy. 401 at Newtonville.
“The caller was able to update officers that the driver had taken the exit for Cobourg, where a pick-up truck matching the description provided was located by OPP on Burnham Street,” said police.
After speaking with the motorist, an impaired driving investigation was initiated, resulting in the arrest of the accused and a trip to the police station for further testing, reported OPP.
As a result of the investigation, police said a 54-year-old Brampton resident was charged with operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs, operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) and dangerous operation.
None of these charges have been proven in court.
In addition to being dished out a future court date, the accused had their licence suspended for 90 days and the vehicle impounded for seven days.
Northumberland OPP continues to ask citizens to report suspected impaired driving by calling 911 and urges all motorists to plan ahead before getting behind the wheel.
