The Peterborough Lakers have advanced to the MSL final for the 10th straight season after beating Brooklin 8-7 in overtime last night. It was the third overtime game in a row of the seven-game series.
The Lakers came back from a 7-3 deficit, scoring five unanswered goals in the third period to force overtime, with Mike Robinson netting the game-winner with 2:56 left in the extra frame.
This year’s MSL final will showcase the Lakers and Chiefs for the ninth time in the last 10 seasons, with Game 1 set for Sunday in Six Nations and Game 2 at the Peterborough Memorial Centre on Tuesday night.
Ten teams from across Ontario are in town this weekend for the Women’s Major Series Lacrosse provincials, including the host Peterborough Lakers. Games are underway right now at the Healthy Planet Arena and will continue all day tomorrow at the Memorial Centre, concluding on Sunday with the semifinals and championship game.
And the OJLL announced yesterday that Jr. A Lakers rookie sensation Waukiigan Shognosh has been named the league’s Goaltender of the Year.
