Open session budget deliberations will be starting a little later than originally anticipated with the addition of an in-camera session to a special Northumberland County council meeting today (Friday, Aug. 15.)
Northumberland County originally issued notice about the start of budget deliberations and a special meeting called for Friday, Aug. 15 back towards the end of July, noting a 9:30 a.m. start time.
In a subsequent update, staff have confirmed that shortly after the meeting is called to order at 9:30 a.m., council is now set to first move into a closed session.
According to a recent release, council will move into the in-camera session to discuss a time-sensitive matter pertaining to litigation or potential litigation, advice that is subject to solicitor client privilege, including communications necessary for that purpose and confidential county infrastructure negotiations under public works, as permitted under the Municipal Act.
In other words, budget deliberations are now set to start at about 10:15 a.m., according to the county.
This portion of the meeting will be held in open session and the meeting will continue in open unless any items arise that prompt another move into an in-camera session, noted officials.
The meeting will be hosted in council chambers at Northumberland County headquarters (555 Courthouse Rd., Cobourg.) People can tune into the open session in-person or virtually, with a livestream accessible via the county online or by joining the meeting via Zoom.
Further details and the agenda are accessible on the county’s website. On the agenda, it states the estimated time of adjournment for the meeting is 4:30 p.m.
