Fire crews are still battling three active wildfires in Kawartha Lakes, with hot, dry weather continuing to challenge efforts.
The Burnt River fire, covering 27 hectares, is now classified as Being Held after days of work by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Kawartha Lakes Fire and Rescue Service. Deputy Chief Jeff Bignell thanked crews for their “challenging” suppression efforts.
The Kirkfield fire, spanning 33.5 hectares, remains Out of Control. A smaller Head Lake fire, 4.5 hectares, is Under Control.
Residents are urged to avoid the fire zones and note that open-air burning will face zero tolerance.
