Selwyn Township residents are being warned that all outdoor burning is now prohibited due to dry weather and elevated fire risk. The Selwyn Fire Department has issued a total burn ban, effective immediately and continuing until further notice. All existing burn permits are now void.
The ban covers:
-
Yard waste and brush burning
-
Campfires and bonfires
-
Outdoor fireplaces, fire pits, and chimineas
-
Agricultural burns
-
Fireworks
Fire officials are reminding residents to exercise caution outdoors, including properly disposing of smoking materials, being careful when using machinery, and staying alert in open fields or wooded areas. Violating the burn ban may result in fines.
The ban will remain in effect until conditions improve. Residents are encouraged to spread the word and ensure neighbours comply.
Burning conditions can change rapidly, and residents should verify current conditions before any outdoor fire. For updates, call the Selwyn Fire Department at 705-292-7282 or check their Facebook page.
