A popular event on the astronomical calendar returns in August in the form of the annual Perseid meteor shower.
To that end, the Peterborough Astronomical Association is hosting a viewing event August 12th at the Harold Town Conservation Area off Old Norwood Road. Starting at 9 p.m., the public is invited to join association members for a viewing of the night sky spectacle. Telescopes and binoculars will be made available.
Longtime association member Rick Stankiewicz says while the meteor shower is the main attraction, other celestial wonders will be visible as well, weather pending.
Stankiewicz says it’s particularly satisfying to see families with young children come out for the event.
Stankiewicz says viewing the night sky provides an experience that can’t be had elsewhere.
The viewing event is dependent on a clear sky. If it’s overcast, the event will be cancelled. Visit www.peterboroughastronomy.com or the association’s Facebook page for event status updates.
