A heat warning remains in effect for Greater Napanee and the surrounding area as a multi-day hot spell continues. Daytime highs are reaching 32 to 35 C, with humidex values between 37 and 40. Overnight temperatures are staying warm, between 20 and 23 C.
Environment Canada says the heat will last through Tuesday, and possibly into Wednesday for parts of eastern Ontario. A cooler air mass is expected Tuesday night.
The extreme heat may also push air quality into the high-risk category. Officials warn everyone is at risk and urge residents to check on vulnerable people such as seniors and those living alone.
Health experts say to watch for signs of heat exhaustion, including headache, dizziness, nausea and fatigue, and to seek emergency help for heat stroke symptoms. People are advised to stay hydrated, avoid the sun during peak hours, and never leave children or pets in vehicles.
