Fire crews are working to contain a large forest fire that has been burning in the Burnt River area since Friday.
As of Sunday afternoon, about 27 hectares remain active.
Kawartha Lakes Fire Rescue Service says crews from three of its stations, along with Trent Lakes Fire Service and Ministry of Natural Resources teams, are on scene. Additional support from North Bay is being deployed.
Aerial water bombers are targeting the most active zones, while tanker trucks draw water from local lakes to aid ground operations. Officials say ice storm damage in the area has created dangerous terrain, complicating hose deployment.
No evacuations have been ordered, but County Road 49 remains closed between County Road 121 and Bury’s Green. A total fire ban is in effect, and residents are urged to report any smoke sightings and avoid the area.
