The local United Way’s Backpacks for Success program is back, aiming to add to the 12,886 backpacks provided to financially vulnerable youths since 2003.
Until August 14th, donations of school supplies for students in kindergarten through Grade 12 can be dropped off at any one of a number of locations listed at www.uwpeterborough.ca/backpacks-for-success-summer-2025-locations/.
United Way campaign officer and Backpacks for Success coordinator Adeline Murphy runs down the list of items sought.
Murphy explains what happens once the needed supplies are gathered and sorted.
Murphy says the backpack initiative speaks directly to the United Way’s broader mission.
According to the United Way, close to 3,000 local children and youths live in poverty, with September bringing an additional financial challenge in terms of needed back-to-school supplies.
