Northumberland United Way is making a last-minute appeal to the community to help finish off its 2025 Backpacks for Kids campaign.
The team will be set up outside Staples Cobourg on Friday, August 8, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in what’s being called the final big push before the annual packing event takes place next week.
Donations have been strong for younger grades, but United Way says they are especially short on supplies for middle and high school students.
Urgently needed items include binders, lined paper, calculators, crayons and pencil crayons, and reusable water bottles.
“We’re really close to our goal of filling 850 backpacks,” a spokesperson said. “But we still need a lot of help to get over the finish line.”
All donations will help ensure local students return to school with the supplies they need to succeed.
Monetary donations are also welcome and can be made online at www.mynuw.org.
The Backpacks for Kids program is one of United Way’s most impactful annual efforts, helping ease the burden for families across Northumberland County at a critical time of year.
Anyone wishing to contribute is encouraged to stop by Staples on Friday or visit the Northumberland United Way website for more ways to give.
