Building activity continues to trend downwards slightly in Brighton the last month or so when compared to last year’s figures, but year-to-date construction is still up overall about $64.3 million, according to the municipality’s latest stats.
The Municipality of Brighton’s building permit record for July 2025 indicates a total of 15 permits were issued for the month in comparison to 20 permits this time last year. Meanwhile, the total number of permits issued so far for this year is up to 101 versus 105 this time last July.
Brighton’s June report showed a total of 16 permits issued compared to 18 in June 2024 – and at that time, year-to-date figures were 86 compared to 85 last year.
Like in June, July dollar figures were again down by a month-by-month comparison over the years – $1,040,500 last month versus $7,319,000 recorded in July 2024. However, when you look closer at overall total year-to-date figures, Brighton is up to $105,016,200 so far for 2025 in comparison to a $40,686,500 total this time last year.
As previously reported, the difference for June stats was more than $70 million – so that overall figure has also dipped some.
Meanwhile, under dwellings, despite only one rural dwelling being added in July, overall residential figures are up to 35 from 32 recorded in July 2024. That 35 year-to-date figure includes 26 urban and nine rural dwellings.
There’s been no change under additional residential units, with two added this year.
Meanwhile, according to the Central Lakes Association of Realtors, July 2025 data shows Northumberland County seeing a 20.7 per cent hike in sales year-over-year. The average house price is still coming in at more than $734,000.
