A 31-year-old man from Smiths Falls is facing multiple charges after police arrested a suspect connected to a string of convenience store robberies in Lindsay.
Members of the Kawartha Lakes Police Community Response Unit stopped a suspicious vehicle on William Street North at around 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday. Officers noted several equipment violations, including concealed licence plates, prompting a traffic stop.
Uniformed officers arrived at the scene and arrested the driver without incident. A knife, believed to have been used in the recent robberies, was seized during a subsequent search.
Police say the suspect initially gave false identification while in custody. However, the Forensic Identification Unit later confirmed his identity as Chris Sauve.
Sauve is charged with five counts of robbery, two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, obstructing a peace officer, and five counts of breaching probation.
He remains in custody and was transported to the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay for a bail hearing.
