Young local business talent will take centre stage this summer at the BECN Staples Youth Entrepreneurship Showcase, happening Wednesday, August 13 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Staples in Cobourg.
The showcase features youth entrepreneurs from two key programs run by the Business and Entrepreneurship Centre Northumberland (BECN): My Future My Career, for ages 8 to 14, and the Summer Company Program, designed for students 15 and older. Both programs offer business coaching, mentorship, and microgrants to help students launch and grow their own ventures.
More than 20 student-run businesses will be represented at the event. Attendees can expect to see a wide variety of services and handmade products, including photography and videography, lawn care, branded apparel, painted prints, jewelry, face painting, home décor, and even slime.
The event is free to attend and is a chance for the public to support youth entrepreneurship while discovering the creativity and innovation happening right here in Northumberland.
For those unable to attend the August 13 event, several of the young entrepreneurs will also be taking part in the Cobourg Farmers Market Youth Day on Saturday, August 23 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
The Summer Company program is funded with support from the Province of Ontario and offers up to $3,000 in microgrants for student entrepreneurs. The My Future My Career program provides up to $500 in startup funding for younger participants.
