The Northumberland Hills Hospital (NHH) Auxiliary celebrated another remarkable year during its Annual Meeting, held July 24 at the Peter B. & Mary T. Smith Community Education Centre.
Outgoing President Selena Forsyth highlighted key accomplishments, including governance improvements, recruitment growth, and over 42,000 volunteer hours contributed across the hospital and retail operations. The Auxiliary currently has more than 325 active volunteers.
Retail fundraising from Petticoat Lane and the Little Treasure Shop totalled $225,000 last year, helping fund new privacy curtains for patient beds. That donation was the second-largest in the Auxiliary’s 101-year history. A new pledge of $250,000 has been approved for the 2025-26 year.
Forsyth formally welcomed Rick Riley as incoming President, with Forsyth continuing on the Board as Past President.
Vice President of Patient Experience Jennifer Gillard emphasized the importance of volunteers, saying: “Volunteers are critical to our ability to deliver the best human experience for all.”
Courtney Shields, Director of Patient Experience, delivered the keynote on patient satisfaction surveys, while Graeme Bakker led a tribute to Auxiliary volunteers who passed away during the year.
The meeting also included long-service recognition, with 31 volunteers receiving pins for service ranging from 5 to 40 years.
