A months-long investigation into thefts across Ontario has led to a significant seizure of stolen property and multiple charges against a 34-year-old Peterborough man.
The Peterborough Police Service says its Street Crime Unit searched a property on July 23rd east of the city, culminating an eight-month probe into organized thefts. Officers recovered approximately $255,000 worth of stolen goods, including a skid steer, side-by-side vehicle, commercial generator, cube truck, flatbed trailer, and several prohibited firearms.
Police say the recovered items were stolen from various locations across the province, including Toronto, North York, and Cane Township. Officers also seized crystal methamphetamine, suspected codeine and acetaminophen pills, and prohibited weapons, including crossbows and pellet guns.
The accused faces 10 charges, including possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, unauthorized possession of a firearm, and breach of multiple court orders. He was already subject to weapons and driving prohibitions and is currently wanted in another jurisdiction.
Police Chief Stuart Betts praised the work of the Street Crime Unit, calling the investigation “a significant step toward keeping our community safe.” He noted that the presence of weapons and drugs, alongside heavy equipment, posed a serious risk.
The Peterborough Police Service thanked the Toronto Police Service, Ontario Provincial Police, and the Criminal Intelligence Service Ontario (CISO) for their support. The investigation received funding from the Ministry of the Solicitor General.
