North China Buffet, located at 300 Bell Boulevard in Belleville, has been ordered to close immediately by the South East Health Unit (SEHU) due to a serious violation of Ontario’s Food Premises Regulation.
The closure falls under Section 13 of the Health Protection and Promotion Act, which requires the restaurant to stay closed until all health hazards are removed and full compliance with public health standards is confirmed.
SEHU says it is working closely with the restaurant operator to correct all issues and ensure the premises are safe before reopening. A full reinspection will be needed before the buffet can reopen to the public.
The decision follows a video being shared online showing a person appearing to take items out of a dumpster and carry them into the restaurant.
No illnesses have been reported so far, but SEHU urges anyone who dined at the restaurant and is feeling unwell to call 613-966-5500 ext. 677.
